Motorola announces official partnership with Olympic skeleton athlete Akwasi Frimpong

Motorola has added a new addition to its sports partnership portfolio: Olympic skeleton athlete Akwasi Frimpong. This partnership contributes to Motorola’s mission to support young people and to enable them to achieve their goals. Frimpong will now wear Motorola’s “batwing” logo on his suit and on his sled. He will also be present at various Motorola events throughout the year and will create content in collaboration with Motorola.

Akwasi Frimpong (35) is a Dutch-Ghanaian athlete. He was born in Ghana, but moved to the Netherlands at the age of eight, where he grew up in the Amsterdam district of De Bijlmer. Akwasi started his sports career as a sprint athlete, later became a bobsledder, and currently practices his passion for skeleton. He lives and trains in Utah.

He was the second Ghanaian to compete in the Winter Olympics. In addition to sports, Frimpong is developing the ‘Hope of a Billion’ Foundation that will encourage Africans and underdogs worldwide to never give up on their dreams. Akwasi states: “Collaborating with Motorola is special to me, because Motorola was the first mobile phone I bought as a teenager in the Netherlands.

I want to empower the current youth based on my positive experiences together with Motorola. Being connected – I am in constant contact with my family, friends, sponsors and fans (supporters) all over the world (Africa, Europe, the United States and Asia), for that, I need good and reliable equipment, with all the user-friendliness of Motorola, to make sure I’m connected with everyone”

Ruben Weenink, General Manager Benelux at Motorola: “Akwasi Frimpong has a very positive attitude and is a real go-getter. Because of this attitude, he has won many championship medals in athletics, both in the Netherlands and in the States. Now, he is chasing his dream to reach the first Winter Games medal for the continent of Africa.

With this, Akwasi wants to inspire and motivate young people to always chase their dreams and get the most out of themselves.

Thanks to this attitude, he is a real source of inspiration for young people to not give up on their dreams. That is why we are proud of our collaboration with Akwasi. We look forward to supporting him in his career and predict good things for Akwasi in the future.”
